UNDERSTANDING YOUR INJURY
Sports-Injury Evaluation and Assessment
An accurate diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment and a safe return to activity. Your assessment begins with a review of how the injury occurred, your symptoms, previous injuries, training demands and activity goals.
Physical Assessment
The examination may assess:
- Pain, swelling and tenderness
- Joint movement, stability and alignment
- Strength, flexibility and tendon, ligament or nerve function
- Walking, running or sport-specific movement patterns

Imaging and Treatment Plan
When needed, X-rays, ultrasound, CT or MRI may be arranged. Point-of-care ultrasound can provide a real-time assessment of many muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints.
Following the assessment, you will receive a diagnosis and individualized treatment plan. Options may include activity modification, medication, physiotherapy, bracing, image-guided procedures or specialist referral. The goal is to restore function, reduce recurrence and help you return safely to the activities you enjoy.
